Duplex ventilation

Duplex ventilation

Duplex is a residential building designed for two families. Two independent sections of the duplex are united by a common roof and side walls, but each has its own front entrance and porch. In fact, these are two houses with a common wall – not yet a cottage, but not a townhouse either. The unusual layout of the building sets its own standards for engineering communications. What should be the ventilation in a duplex?

Ventilation rates in the duplex are regulated by SNiP 41-01-2003 and TSN OVK-2000and assume an air exchange rate of at least 30 cubic meters for each adult living in the house.

Since a duplex is designed for two families, it is usually not designed for general ventilation. How is an independent ventilation system created in a duplex?

Types of ventilation

Residential buildings use natural and forced ventilation. Natural ventilation is laid down at the design stage of the duplex and consists of ventilation shafts, channels and hatches. Due to the difference in temperature and air pressure inside and outside the building, the movement of air masses is ensured. But this type of ventilation is dependent on weather conditions and is not able to provide enough fresh air to establish a healthy microclimate.

In order to comply with the norms of air exchange in the duplex, natural ventilation is supplemented by forced air circulation systems. They pump fresh air through fans, so their work does not depend on the temperature outside the window. Electric hoods do a good job with their task: they provide an influx of fresh air, pre-prepare it (heat and dry, if necessary), remove stagnant air masses. But they also have their drawbacks. The main one is the consumption of an expensive energy carrier: during operation, electric hoods consume a large amount of electricity, their work cannot be called economical.

Therefore, the owners of residential buildings are thinking about an alternative: for example, duplex ventilation powered by solar energy.

Duplex Solar Ventilation

In Canada, the USA and a number of European countries, proper ventilation in a duplex is created using devices that consume only solar energy. Gradually, this technology is becoming popular in Russia and the CIS, displacing electric hoods from the market. The principle of operation of solar ventilation is simple: the devices take outside air, heat it up due to sunlight, and then the fan delivers heated air masses to the duplex rooms.

Duplex Solar Ventilation

The appliances turn on automatically every time the sun hits them. The power of the devices is selected based on the total living area of the house. With the help of solar collectors, it is easy to install local ventilation systems for various areas of the duplex: for example, separately for bathrooms and utility rooms.

Correct duplex solar ventilation is created quickly and easily: the installation of equipment does not require the development of project documentation or changes in the existing wiring of engineering communications.
But the benefits of solar-powered ventilation do not end there:

  • Saving.

The equipment works for free, and the cost of devices is comparable to the prices of electric hoods.

  • Fire safety.

The devices do not require connection to the mains, there is no additional load on the wiring, the risk of short circuit and fire is eliminated.

  • Automatic operation.

Devices turn on automatically and work without human control. But you can turn them off if you want.
Ventilation in a solar-powered duplex is a progressive solution that allows you to create a healthy microclimate at home at minimal cost.
